Sultry Wins Thursday’s Featured Shadwell Farm Purse at Keeneland

LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 12, 2017) – Joseph Sutton’s Sultry charged to the front in deep stretch to win Thursday’s $67,000 featured Shadwell Farm Purse for 2-year-old fillies by a length over Jehozacat before a crowd of 10,323. (Click here for a replay of the race.)

Trained by Eddie Kenneally and ridden by Corey Lanerie, Sultry covered 7 furlongs on a fast main track in 1:24.10.

A Keeneland sales graduate, Sultry is a Kentucky-bred daughter of Malibu Moon out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Viva Carina (ARG). Now a winner of two races in four starts, Sultry increased her earnings to $66,466 with Thursday’s $40,200 check.

Sultry returned $12.40, $4.80 and $3.60. Jehozacat, ridden by Feargal Lynch, returned $4.20 and $3.60 with Classy Music, under Robby Albarado, paying $5.60 to show.

Racing continues Friday with a 10-race program beginning at 1:05 p.m. ET. Highlighting the card is the 21st running of the $100,000 Buffalo Trace Franklin County (G3) for fillies and mares going 5½ furlongs on the grass. It is the afternoon’s ninth race with a 5:30 p.m. post time.

On Friday, Keeneland will offer a Super High Five carryover of $4,130 and a Pick Six carryover of $9,660.


Thursday was the 10th anniversary of Make-A-Wish Day at Keeneland, which partnered with area Thoroughbred farms and organizations to grant wishes for 10 deserving children. Fans were able to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation and cheer on these children as they presented the trophies after each race as part of their VIP day at the races. Sponsors were Ashford Stud, Flaxman Holdings/Frizzy Foundation, Gainesway Farm, Godolphin, Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, Keeneland, Lane’s End Farm, Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, Shadwell Farm and Shawnee Farm.
